Coaching Programme & Responsibilities

Coaching Programme

The aim of the Centre of Excellence is to develop players who can quickly pass the ball both short and long and who can keep the ball and create attacking opportunities.

To develop players who can give support and attack quickly when the opportunity arises.

To develop players who can win the ball back as quickly as possible for the process to begin again.

For this method of play to work players need to:

  • Have confidence and understanding - players should know why they are playing to this or any other method.
  • They should not worry about making mistakes whilst learning how to play this way. The players should be encouraged to always play the ball and express themselves without fear of reprisals.
  • Develop the techniques to play this style of play.
  • Develop the required physical fitness levels to play at a high tempo.

Great emphasis will be given to:

Technique.

  • Quality passing.
  • Support play
  • Good first touch and control.
  • Creating space.
  • Being comfortable on the ball.
  • Awareness/getting players on the half turn.
  • Developing two footed players.
  • Players who are flexible, sharp and quick in movement.

Social.

  • To develop players with self confidence, determination, motivation and pride in what they do.
  • Players who communicate within groups and with the coaches.

Let children play

The ball near their feet, they kick and it misses.
There’s a moan from the crowd, some boos and some hisses,
A thoughtless voice cries “Take off the bum”
Tears fill their eyes, it’s no longer fun
If you’re ever tempted to shout or to groan
They stand on the field with their hearts beating fast
The whistle has blown, the die has been cast
Mum and Dad cannot help, they stand all alone.
A goal at this moment would send the team home.
Remember it’s a child, who stands all alone
So open your heart, give them a break
It’s moments like this, a player you make
Keep this in mind, please don’t forget
They’re only children, not adults yet!!
