Injuries and Treatment

Injury Clinic Treatment Arrangements

Initial treatment of injuries.

Until a player is seen by the Centre’s physiotherapist, initial treatment should begin at home. This can be done by following the basic principle of:

  • Rest No exercise to be performed using the injury area.
  • Ice It is important not to apply the ice directly to the skin as it may burn.
A pre-packed gel pack or a plastic bag filled with crushed ice is ideal, placing a damp towel on the skin will avoid burns.
  • Compression Applied with a bandage or towel, but not too tight to affect the blood flow.
  • Elevation Raise the limb, so that gravity can help relieve the swelling.
The ice should be applied for 14 minutes every hour, this will aid the recovery of the injury by speeding up the healing process. This should be repeated as many times as possible, until the player is seen by a physiotherapist.

Rules of treatment

Any player attending the clinic must be accompanied by one parent or guardian.
No other person other than those registered with Stockport County F.C will be seen by the physiotherapist, unless agreed with the appropriate staff.

If a player is on any medication they must inform the physiotherapist at the clinic in case it may interfere with treatment.

A file on diagnosis/treatment will be kept on each player by the physiotherapist.

Remember: All injuries must be reported to the coach and physiotherapist.

Coaches

Fixtures
